Forged with the devotion of a true artisan, this one‑of‑a‑kind hand‑painted writing bureau has been created in honour of The Hobbit from The Lord of the Rings.
Each panel has been transformed into a chapter of Bilbo Baggins’ journey, capturing the spirit, wonder, and quiet courage that define his tale.Across the piece are seven original hand‑painted scenes, each chosen for its significance within the story:
Bag End in the Shire, peaceful and green beneath the Hill
Bilbo and Smaug within the golden depths of the Lonely Mountain
Sting, the famed Elven blade that glows in the presence of foes
Bilbo and Gollum, locked in their fateful riddle game
Bilbo after the Battle of the Five Armies, changed yet steadfast
Gandalf upon the Great Eagle, soaring above Middle‑earthA detailed Middle‑earth map upon the drop‑down writing surfaceTogether, these scenes form a visual retelling of There and Back Again – A Hobbit’s Tale.
Craftsmanship & Materials
The creation of this bureau became a journey of its own, shaped by twists, turns, and artistic exploration. The base colour is a custom blend of Annie Sloan Capability Green and Oxford Navy (70/30), producing a deep, earthy tone reminiscent of ancient forests and distant mountains.
The carved details and edges are highlighted with Antique Gold Rub ’n Buff, lending the piece a warm, timeless glow.
The entire bureau is sealed with Annie Sloan Clear Wax, with Brown Wax added to introduce depth, texture, and a natural, weathered character befitting Middle‑earth.
All artwork is painted in acrylics and protected with Rustoleum Semi‑Gloss Lacquer for durability and longevity.

Hardware has been replaced with antique‑gold circular knobs, complementing the carved accents.Select edges and interior sections have been left in natural wood, grounding the piece in the organic beauty of the Shire. The drawers are lined with dark forest‑foliage wallpaper, echoing the woodland realms of Middle‑earth.
