Celebrating a Season in Middle‑earth: My First Quarter of Painting

All Things LOTR

The first quarter of this year has been nothing short of magical. My studio has been filled with maps of Middleearth, sketches of hobbitholes, Elvish script, and more shades of green and gold than I ever thought possible. From handpainted wall art to fully transformed pieces of furniture, I’ve spent the last few months immersed in the world of The Lord of the Rings — and honestly, it has been a joy.

There’s something special about painting Middleearth. It isn’t just fantasy; it’s a place that feels livedin, loved, and deeply rooted in the imaginations of millions. Every brushstroke feels like a tiny tribute to a world that shaped so many of us.

Why This Year Matters: The 25th Anniversary of The Lord of the Rings

This creative season couldn’t have come at a better time. 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, a milestone that feels almost unbelievable. A quarter of a century since we first stepped into the Shire, heard the horns of Gondor, and watched the Fellowship set out from Rivendell.

Celebrating this anniversary isn’t just about nostalgia. It’s about recognising the cultural impact these films had — and continue to have. They redefined fantasy cinema, brought Tolkien’s world to life with breath taking detail, and inspired generations of artists, writers, and dreamers. For many of us, Middleearth became a creative home.

So painting these pieces this year feels meaningful. It’s a way of honouring the stories that shaped our imaginations, the characters who taught us courage, and the landscapes that still feel like places we could walk into if we just found the right wardrobe, door, or forest path.

From Wall Art to Furniture: Bringing Middleearth Into Everyday Spaces

This quarter, I’ve had the pleasure of creating:

  • Handpainted Middleearth furniture — from carved writing desks to themed cabinets
  • Wall art inspired by iconic scenes and locations
  • Custom pieces celebrating favourite characters and quotes

Each creation has been a reminder of why this world endures. Middleearth isn’t just a story — it’s a feeling. A sense of adventure, comfort, bravery, and home.

Looking Ahead

As the anniversary celebrations continue throughout the year, I’m excited to keep exploring new ways to bring Middleearth into my artwork. Whether it’s a subtle nod to the Shire or a dramatic tribute to Mordor, there’s so much more to create.

If you’re a fellow fan celebrating 25 years of the trilogy, I hope these pieces bring you the same joy they brought me while painting them. Here’s to the Fellowship, to Tolkien’s timeless world, and to many more years of creativity inspired by Middleearth.
